Campaign #194 is for Phil Heasley in PA

Headlines about the 2020 presidential election and Pennsylvania’s decisive role are easy to find. Every week, more people email us asking how they can start now to pave the way for PA to turn blue. Well, with our 194th #PostcardsToVoters campaign, you can. Write now!

A Special Election has been called to fill a vacancy in the PA State House’s 8th District. The Republican incumbent who won his most recent election in 2018 by 41 points resigned after being elected as a Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge. And one could easily see reasons to opt out of such a tough district for Democrats. One could. But, Phil Heasley didn’t.

About Phil

Heasley, 29, runs Butler Gymnastics Club, a family business in Center Township. Democratic Party leaders picked Phil to be the nominee on January 22. There hasn’t been much time for this small business owner to knock on as many doors and call as many voters as will be needed if this seat is going to be flipped. But, your handwritten postcards, even if you only write to five voters, can blanket the entire district reaching every Democratic-voting household.

A lifelong Democrat, Heasley said he got involved in politics at an early age by knocking on doors in support of John Kerry’s 2004 presidential bid. If elected, he will fill the vacancy until the end of this year. Phil’s opponent is Grove City attorney Timothy Bonner, the Republican nominee.

Phil’s Priorities
  • Develop jobs that pay enough to raise a family.
  • Increase funding for mental health care.
  • Make sure rural areas have access to affordable health care.
  • Pursue expanded broadband service in rural regions.
  • Focus on reversing the area’s “brain drain.”
  • Fight the tragic drug abuse epidemic with every tool available.
  • Direct state funding to bridge, road, and tunnel improvements.
  • Reopen the McKeever Environmental Center.
  • Stop the decline of public park maintenance.

This district comprises portions of Butler and Mercer counties in the northwestern part of the state. You can see the odd-shaped, gerrymandered district for yourself on the campaign’s web site HeasleyForPA.com

You can probably recite the list of challenges as well as anyone by now if you’ve been writing with us for a while. But, you can also count off all of the benefits of reaching Democrats in the reddest areas during a Presidential election year. Especially in Pennsylvania.

We’re going to do our part to energize as many Dem voters as we can.

Write on! ~Tony The Democrat
