Campaign #111 is for Beto O’Rourke!
…and also Adrienne Bell.
We have a special opportunity to write to a new list of Democratic voters in Texas’ 14th Congressional District urging them to vote for all Democratic candidates on their ballot. But, in particular, we will mention the names of both Adrienne Bell running for Congress and Beto O’Rourke running for US Senate.
About Beto O’Rourke
Beto is a name many of us have been following for months. Ever since we learned he was the sitting Congressman from Texas who was going to challenge Ted Cruz, we’ve been waiting to help in some way.
In fact, some of us haven’t been waiting at all! I have friends who have been phone banking and canvassing for Beto for some time. Now, we all get to write to Texas voters – starting in this one Congressional District – and boost their turnout for him.
You can read more about him here: https://betofortexas.com/about/
There are a lot of videos about Beto on-line. But, here’s a recent news broadcast about the race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eti65BB1e30
About Adrienne Bell
Barack Obama has endorsed 81 candidates across the country, including Democrat Adrienne Bell. She is running for Congress in Texas’ 14th district, which includes areas of Pearland, Galveston, Jefferson and Brazoria.
Bell is running on a platform of Medicare for all and a $15 minimum wage. She is also endorsed by Justice Democrats, the group that backed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her surprise victory in New York’s 14th congressional district.
Why do we need to unseat the incumbent? He’s a member of the so-called “Freedom Caucus” in Congress. He stands arm in arm with Trump voting against healthcare and for the tax bill that rewarded the wealthy.
In May in Santa Fe, Texas, located in Bell’s district, the 22nd school shooting of 2018 unfolded when a gunman opened fire shortly after classes began at 7:30 a.m. local time, killing 10 and wounding more. The NRA knows on which side the Republican incumbent’s bread is buttered and that’s why he has their endorsement.
Bell is one of seven African-Americans running for Congress in Texas. Some experts will say investing in congressional districts in Texas is a waste of resources. But, these are the same people who did not think Doug Jones could win a Senate seat in Alabama and did not see Democrats almost winning back the Virginia House of Delegates last year.
Here are two video clips about why this is such an important campaign to support:
It is important that we take advantage of this unique opportunity to support both Adrienne and Beto. Lots of voters will be turning out for Beto no matter what. But, it’s common for voters who don’t have time to closely follow elections to only vote for the top one or two contests on their ballot. In Texas this year, they are voting for Governor, too. There’s a thing called down-ballot drop-off. It’d be a real shame for Beto’s voters to stop filling out the ballot and miss their chance to flip Texas 14 by voting for Bell.
Your postcards will help make a connection in the minds of these voters. Beto+Bell. When they vote for Beto, they will hopefully remember Bell. With the right turnout, we’ve seen surprising flips this past year.
There’s every reason to be optimistic that the Blue Wave can sweep both Beto and Bell into office this November!
